Chapter Thirteen

Simon swam to the edge of the pond. He was weak with relief, after that awful moment when he thought he'd pushed her too hard. That he'd be walking home alone with his tail between his legs.

His dick would never have forgiven him.

He forced himself to move slowly as he climbed out. She was excited, but still skittish and nervous, after the mess he'd made of last night. Hyper-aware of how vulnerable she was with him. So was he.

He had to compensate for being bigger and stronger by hanging on to his control somehow. Damn near impossible, the way he felt.

He had to distract himself. Do something, anything else, until the roaring in his ears abated. He scooped up the watermelon, pulled his knife out of his boot sheath and sat down on the plaid wool blanket, willing his hard-on to relax to half mast. "Want some?"

She looked down at him, puzzled. "I thought you wanted…"

"You thought right, but there's no hurry." He stabbed the rind, dragged the knife around, then pried it open. Ah, good. Juicy and crimson. "You have to taste this. Come here. Sit down. I'm starving." She sank down onto the blanket, curling her legs daintily beneath her.

"You haven't eaten?" She looked worried. "Why didn't you say something?"

"Who cares? I'll eat some of this melon, and then I'll lick up some delicious girl juice, and I'll be in hog heaven."

She covered her face with her hands. "Oh, God."

"Is that not OK with you?" He feigned puzzlement. "You seemed to really go for it last night."

She peeked through her fingers. "Don't tease me, Simon."

"Then don't egg me on." He sliced out a big, crimson chunk of melon and flicked the seeds away with the point of his knife. He held it up to her lips. "Take the first bite, angel."

She lowered her hands from her very pink face. She looked soft and deliciously wet, her gold-tipped lashes still dark from the water, hair still dripping onto the blanket. She opened her mouth and accepted the fruit. Her lashes swept down, and she made a low, husky murmur of approval as she savored it. "Delicious."

He cut a long wedge. "This is how I like it," he told her. "Not icy cold out of a fridge. It has to be warm from the sun on one side and cool from the earth on the other. Torn open with a knife that's a little too small, so that the flesh is jagged. Red mountains and pink lakes of sweet juice. A wet, sticky, sexy mess. Yum."

She laughed at him as he devoured the chunk of fruit. "Is everything about seduction with you?"

He smiled at her and held up another piece of melon in answer to her question. "Open your mouth."

She leaned forward and ate the fruit from his hands. The clasp of her soft lips closing around his finger made his cock jerk and swell.

"Feed me a piece now," he commanded.

She held out her hand. "Give me your knife.
